The 5:2 diet is a type of fasting regimen aiming to restrict ones caloric intake in order to lose weight.  There are different types of fasting regimens that aim to at least help make it easy for people to stick to fasting as a habit. The 5:2 diet does so by combining days of fasting and non-fasting.

The 5:2 diet involves trying to restrict calorie intake to 25 percent of your daily calorie needs for two days each week while eating normally for other five days. With the two days where calorie restriction is enforced, people will start losing weight.
