Things like the common washing sponge. People think that because the sponge is always soaked in soap that it is quite clean. But this is not the case. There are times when certain food bits can get trapped within the sponge material. Over time, they can become a place where bacteria and other pathogens may develop and spread.

Make sure that you check out the washing sponge for trapped food bits and try to remove them. In order to sanitize your washing sponge, microwave them for at least one minute or include them inside the dishwasher on your next cleaning run. Once you also recognize some musty smell in your washing sponge, then it is time to replace it.

Use The 2-2-4 Rule Of Food Safety

There are times when you need to keep or preserve the food you prepare for as long as possible. But if you don’t know the basic rules, then you might increase the risk of food going bad. When it comes to leftover food storage, try to always remember the 2-2-4 rule. This rule states that you need to refrigerate cooked food at least two hours after you cook it, use a two-inch deep container to quickly chill food, and leftover food should be consumed within four days. If leftover food requires longer storage, they need to be placed in the freezer.

Avoid Rinsing Raw Meat Prior To Cooking

When preparing raw meat, there is no need to rinse it before cutting them up. The reason for this is that there is the risk of spreading potential pathogens via the water droplets into other food ingredients. You need not worry about not washing raw meat since cooking them well is good enough to kill off the bacteria or pathogens.
